OVERVIEW

The Bird is neutral but is often tense, anxious, and scattered, and can characterize situations in these ways. However, its difficulties are usually short-lived. When positively aspected, it’s lively and brings bright things. Dialogue, discussions, problem solving, negotiation, exchange of ideas, news, or short distance travel are typical with the Bird. It often refers to verbal messages and telephone calls about to be received, in contrast with the Letter which is better associated with written communication.

IN THE PORTRAIT & GRAND TABLEAU

If it falls on the first or central card of the nine-card portrait, and if there are bright cards nearby, the Bird advises us to reach out and ask questions. We need to be proactive, take the initiative to make conversation, and get the information we need. In these positions, the reading typically points to a social time when communication is key. With negative cards, we might need to stop talking for a while, or withhold communicating until timing is right or when things have cooled off. We must also ensure that we’re not overreacting to events or causing undue tension in our surroundings. In the central position, the Bird can also point to news or a short trip.

In the Grand Tableau, the Bird near the significator tells of some uncertainties and anxieties to be endured, though only for a short while. When far, a happy journey, good news, or positive conversations are ahead. If a trip is considered, it’s likely of a short distance or duration, and should be, if it’s in our hands to plan it.

ADVICE

The advice of the Bird is to initiate conversation, debate ideas, and ask questions. It emphasizes overcoming shyness, getting out, and networking. However, it can also indicate that we’re causing tension around us and so advises us to tone down our approach. With negative cards, we need to back off and take it easy for a while, instead of pushing the envelope too far.

Wisdom must be exercised in all communications. The Bird also encourages us to pay attention to how we communicate with others and whether we’re effective or not. More broadly, it advises us to get busy and be proactive.
