OVERVIEW

The Key is the card of insight, intelligence, aha moments, problem solving, success, goal achievement, and resourcefulness. With it comes the ability to unlock any door and get access to knowledge and resources. We make deep realizations and matters that were hidden come to light. The Key removes obstacles and restrictions, and unblocks our path. We could get help from someone or something. We have the green light to move forward and feel the freedom and relief that come with the momentum. It delivers liberation as well as new options and possibilities.

IN THE PORTRAIT & GRAND TABLEAU

On the first or central card of the nine-card portrait, it answers our query and wishes positively, and indicates a successful outcome. On the first card in particular, it assures us that we’re bright and capable, and are perceived by others in this way. We should put our smarts to good use, brainstorm solutions, and spend some time problem solving. But the Key also suggests that we can find answers and achieve our goals.

The Key brings success whether near or far. Some authors read it as indicating losses or failure when far. I think this is an exaggeration of some versions of the Red Owl quote that read: “When further away good luck is weaker. Plans go astray and courage is meeker.” Negative cards nearby can challenge us, but the Key is powerful and capable of overturning them, even if with a delay.

ADVICE

The Key advises us to be resourceful and self-reliant, but if we need help we must also seek it. Knowing our limitations is smart and asking for input enables us to close our knowledge gaps. It urges us to wake up to our power and start creating the life we want to live. The Key suggests important events are at hand, so we must pay attention.
